Fluconazole is used to treat serious fungal or yeast infections, including vaginal candidiasis, oropharyngeal candidiasis (thrush, oral thrush), esophageal candidiasis (candida esophagitis), other candida infections (including urinary tract infections, peritonitis [inflammation of the lining of the stomach], and infections that may occur in different parts of the body), or fungal (cryptococcal) meningitis. It is also used in children on life support called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). This medicine works by killing the fungus or yeast, or preventing its growth. Fluconazole is also used to prevent candidiasis in patients having bone marrow transplants who receive cancer or radiation treatment.
Direction to Use:
DIFLUCONAZOLE is most effective when used as a single dose or on a two-dose plan. A two-dose plan for fluconazole 150 mg to 200 mg is to take the medicine 2 times a day with each day at the same time, followed by each day at the same time, and then every day at approximately the same time. Each day should be taken at the same time every day. An anti-fungal like fluconazoleixir is especially useful when you have a history of acute or recurrent candidiasis. It can help to clear up your infection and prevent recurring candidiasis. A fast-acting, broad-spectrum antifungal can be very effective in reducing symptoms, especially if your health is at risk. An overdose of fluconazole can cause respiratory depression and other life-threatening side effects.
Side Effects:
Like all medicines, fluconazole can cause side effects. While they are not life-threatening, they may well outweigh any relief you can get.Allergic reactions
